Built in 1936 by the Thoroughbred Club, with founding member Bing Crosby providing leadership, the racetrack still carries the decades-long tradition by honoring Bing Crosby every year on Opening Day.

Del Mar is situated on the Coast, and can be reached via the I-5 Freeway, or along Camino Del Mar, which turns into Pacific Coast Highway.
The 5 is conveniently placed so one can reach it from any point in Del Mar in roughly 10 minutes.
In general, traffic in Del Mar is moderate. The area experiences more congestion when the Racetrack is in season, or the Del Mar Fair is occurring.
Neighborhoods are removed from major thoroughfares, and do not experience noise from traffic.
