Del Mar

A historic and classy community with the Pacific as its backyard.

Welcome to Del Mar

Spanish for “Of the Sea”, Del Mar has many of the typical components of a Southern California coastal town, combined with countless unique facets that make it one of the most coveted neighborhoods in all of San Diego County. With a mediterranean-subtropical climate, warm dry summers are great for spending long days at the beach, and the winters are considered chilly when it drops below 50 degrees.

The Del Mar Racetrack, one of the most storied landmarks in the state, provides an intriguing historical background for the town. Built in 1936 by the Thoroughbred Club, with founding member Bing Crosby providing leadership, the racetrack still carries the decades-long tradition by honoring Bing Crosby every year on Opening Day.

A perfect place for any outdoors enthusiast, many residents enjoy hiking, cycling, surfing, fishing, swimming, beach volleyball, and paddle-boarding - just to name a few of the options. The school district is one of the best in San Diego County.  A sense of belonging grips every member of the community, regardless of whether they are native to the area or just recently moved into the neighborhood.  Oh, and If you're a dog lover, you're going to love Del Mar.

                                  What Residents Say...

"Quiet and clean, Del Mar is a wonderful area with pristine beaches, great nature preserves, and seasonal festivals.  With the Racetrack in swing there is always something to do around town.  Great food and fair for everyone!"

"Del Mar is the town of my dreams.  Since I was younger and my parents would take me to the Del Mar fair each summer, I always said I would live there one day.  Fast forward 20 years, and my husband and I now live here with our kids.  Being able to wake up each day and walk along the beach or go have breakfast at one of the charming restaurants in town is like living in utopia!"

"The beaches are beautiful, the schools are advanced, and it's a very safe neighborhood.  It's great for teenage kids, because the small businesses in the community are open to hiring for summer jobs, which is nice once they grow out of summer camps!  Even though we moved here when our eldest was 11, this community feels like it has been our home forever.  Very inclusive feel, and friendly neighbors.  We love it."

"I have lived in Del Mar for three years, and I love it.  The schools are all the same distance away, and the beach is walking distance.  The highway is very close as well, which makes for easy commuting."

"Since moving to Del Mar, I've been given the opportunity to start fresh in this wonderful environment.  Everyone is very welcoming and neighborly.  The town itself is very dog friendly, which is a huge plus for me because I have two dogs.  I'm also in love with the location; between the ocean, the views, the sunny weather, and relaxing on the beach, it doesn't get much better than this!"
